A smooth wall aluminum container is cold-formed from a single sheet of food-grade aluminum into a clean, flat-sided shape with an uninterrupted rim. That flat rim is the whole point: it lets a plastic film or foil membrane heat-seal cleanly to the container for an airtight, leak-proof pack. A ridged wrinkle wall pan cannot hold that seal reliably, because its corrugated rim breaks the contact line.
